You can buy green dhide I believe at the champions guild (dragon slayer quest) and the body piece from the guy who sells rune plates, otherwise you need to craft any dhide above green.The other gear is not worth even thinking about for early/mid progression. it's a little hard to tell because I can't see your melee stats, but you're right, a leaf bladed sword is only 2% better than tent whip at 150s.
